Chapter 10
Kiin Valley would be better described as a bustling town than a valley. Amaela didn't even know why they called it a valley. The mountains were pretty far away, but the ground did slope down from the forest before leveling out, and the town sat at the bottom of the slope. A river flowed at one end of the town, and the buildings were clustered together. Animals of all kinds rushed up and down the streets.
Amaela stood on the edge of the forest, looking down at the town. "So this is Kiin Valley, huh?"

SunCheep opened his eyes to Virin shaking him. The forest was still dark, and the moon illuminated everything with a silvery glow.
"Time to get up." Virin gave him one last shove. "Your turn for watch."

"They think your mother is a thief?" SunCheep burst into laughter. "Do they even know who it is they're accusing?"
Amaela brought a box from her mother's closet. "It's a little more complicated than that, Cheepie."
"Amaela, please stop calling me 'Cheepie.' You know I hate it."
"But I love it." Amaela smiled at him. SunCheep rolled his eyes.

Part 1: Thief
Chapter 1
The silence of the Seedling Meadow grass farm reminded SunCheep of a story Amaela had told him once. Its first line was, "A deadly silence hovered over the nest, concealing the danger that lurked in the shadows." It then proceeded to narrate the tale of a mouse who had been abducted from her hole to be food for owls. She escaped only to stumble into a nest of writhing snakes.
SunCheep shivered, though the sun shone down on his shoulders. "The story isn't real; it's not real."
